5.0 out of 5 stars Really really funny and informative book that can be enjoyed by all ages

December 3, 2019

Format: Paperback

“What Killed Sally” is an extraordinarily funny book suitable for readers of all ages. Each chapter is a separate vignette of events involving a family that owns a ranch (PSI) in West Texas. Each family member has a unique contribution to life on the Ranch. Groups of teenagers stay/camp at the ranch and the ranch “hands” instruct them about the fun they will have and the possible perils they can encounter if the teens are not careful. Always, there is a girl named Sally with each group.  Poor Sally encounters a deadly hazard, either inadvertently or because she was inattentive or misunderstood instructions, and the hazard results in her death. All of the scenarios are written tongue in cheek and many are laugh out loud funny. After a Sally expires, an investigation into her death transpires, and the reader is treated to an informative and interesting science lesson. The reader learns about deadly flora and fauna that a camper and/or hiker could encounter in sparsely populated areas of West Texas as well as other remote areas of the US. Wildlife abounds, and many creatures can be dangerous. There are natural hazards in terrain that can kill as well. This book would appeal to people of all ages, and it is FUN to read, especially aloud. It is fully illustrated and so much more enjoyable than a dry science book. (The recipes for the food provided by PSI are hilarious.) Highly recommended.
